The Transparency Team welcomes its newest team member Kirby!
Our team recently investigated a municipal utility district in Texas. While we can’t discuss the detals, we can share that we provided over 177 findings to the board of directors. These findings documented dozens of ways that money was moving out of the organization and demonstrated how the MUD could save $500k-$1M in the coming years by making positive changes to its procedures, controls, and policies.
Previously, our team investigated a Maryland organization that had recently gone from generating $500k after expenses on an annual basis to a negative cashflow position, putting the entire organization at risk. We discovered a number of accounting tricks including switching from LIFO to FIFO and back again, not something that is allowed by GAAP! The result exposed the CEO and Financial VP and allowed the organization to get back on track. We also uncovered excess inventory which the organization then sold to cover its current year cash losses.
A trust worth over $100M was at risk during a civil lawsuit where the financial positions and debts of the parties were highly relevant. Our team identified over 100GB of financial and real estate information. This gave our client a powerful hand when negotiating and eventually led to a settlement and conclusion which kept the trust safe for future generations.
Our team examined the trust, will, and probate documents of a multi-million dollar Texas Trust which appeared to be missing some of its assets. The case eventually went “multi-state” as the executor of the will and two trustees had set up multiple companies in different states with the same name, then pretended to “invest” in them. Our report showed illicit cash transfers of hundreds of thousands of dollars which led to the resignation of one trustee and possible criminal charges against another.
